- Nikon D7000:
My first DSLR which will last me quite a long time, it shoots great pictures at high ISO and HD video. Best crop camera Nikon sports right now.
- Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 lens
- Sigma 30mm f / 1.4 lens
This lens on crop gives me the 50mm focal length as if I were on full frame. Its an excellent walk around and I do a lot of portraiture work with it since the f/1.4 gives me a nice creamy background bokeh. It is by far my favorite lens and even through it is sometimes limiting in that it just isn’t wide enough sometimes, making it work for the situation has provided wonderful results.
- SLIK Mini-Pro V Tripod
Just got it, small and compact, it’ll be nice to have the option of being in my pictures as well as taking night shots.
- SLIK F630
Dependable, well made, and sturdy. I could probably take out a person’s head with this too if I really wanted to. Its quite lightweight as well, I’ve brought it around with me on three to four hour shoots without it bothering me.
- Nikon SB-600
My new flash unit, the tech is a bit dated but it serves its purposes very well. I’m still figuring out how to do good flash usage, but this is a good all around flash for travel even if I won’t use it that often. Definitely a case of better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. I’ve have had a little success using it in portrait and dance floor shoots so I’m happy with it.
- iPhone4
A good friend of mine said, the best camera you have is the one you have on you. Can’t leave home without it, the camera on it is as good as my old Sony Cybershot I used to document high school memories. Along with all the great app support for the camera, it really is the swiss army of point and shoots. List of apps follows:
- Hipstamatic – based on an old analog camera, now an app. takes great retro shots.
- Pro HDR – HDR made simple, does a pretty decent job
- Pano / 360 – panoramic pictures, both lining up shots & sweeping accross
- Darkroom Pro – brings out the extra colors in
- QuadCamera – takes multiple shots in a row, I’ve tried to take action shots with no luck so far.

- Nikon D90
Great starter dSLR that was replaced by the D7000 last November. Has great ISO performance is a lightweight and compact crop camera. Easy to carry around during travels.
- Nikkor 50mm f / 1.8 lens
First lens, takes great portrait shots and produces nice bokeh effects. Takes great pictures and is extremely lightweight for carrying the camera around everyday. Rather soft at f / 1.8 occasionally.
I’m glad you found a tripod that is compact and suitable to you… I realized that I never got back to you on that, sorry!
Its ok, actually you helped me by getting me specs. Didn’t know compact tripods could carry the weight of DSLRs, was afraid I’d put one up and it would plop over and I’d lose a +$300 lens. lol
And if I remember right, you did tell me you weren’t quite sure what make/model it was since you bought it in Japan.
